Overview

check_circleWhat You Get
check

Dispatch board renders all scheduled jobs as interactive map pins with route lines, time windows, and estimated load sizes between every stop

check

Drivers tap any job address in the driver portal and launch turn-by-turn Google Maps navigation instantly on iOS or Android — no copy-pasting addresses

check

Route optimization sequences jobs and dump facility stops on the map, cutting 15-25% of daily windshield time for most operators (Growth plan)

check

Real-time GPS plots every truck's live position on the dispatch map so you can give customers accurate ETAs and reassign jobs on the fly (Growth plan)

check

Address geocoding flags incomplete or misspelled addresses before dispatch so drivers never show up at the wrong house — saves an average 20 minutes per bad address

infoWhat This Is Not
close

This is not a separate GPS tracking subscription — fleet tracking is built into the Growth plan at no additional per-truck or per-driver cost

close

ScaleYourJunk does not sell, share, or expose driver GPS positions to anyone outside your account — location data stays in your dispatch dashboard only

close

Google Maps integration does not require you to create a Google Cloud project, enable billing, or generate a separate Google Maps API key

What Syncs

Every object, direction, and mapped field — so you know exactly what connects.

Job Addresses

arrow_forwardScaleYourJunk → Google Maps

Every job address geocodes automatically when created via your item-select booking page, phone intake, or manual entry. Jobs render as color-coded pins on the dispatch map showing customer name, scheduled time window, estimated load size, and current job status — so dispatchers see the full picture without clicking into individual records.

checkCustomer street address

checkScheduled time window

checkEstimated load size

checkJob status (pending, en route, on site, complete)

infoIf an address cannot be geocoded — common with rural routes, new construction, or PO boxes — ScaleYourJunk flags the job with a red warning badge before dispatch. You can drop a manual pin on the map or correct the address. About 2-3% of residential addresses need this fix.

route

Route Sequences

arrow_forwardScaleYourJunk → Google Maps

Route optimization on the Growth plan generates the fastest stop sequence factoring in time windows, load capacity, and dump facility locations. The optimized route renders on the dispatch map as a polyline with drive-time estimates between each stop. Dispatchers see total route mileage and estimated completion time. Most three-truck operators save 45-90 minutes of drive time per day — that is one extra job worth $250-$450 in revenue.

checkStop order (jobs and dump runs)

checkDrive time between each stop

checkTotal route distance in miles

checkDump facility stops with hours

infoIf a job is added, canceled, or reassigned mid-day, route optimization recalculates the remaining sequence in under five seconds. The driver portal updates the new route automatically — no radio call needed.

my_location

Driver GPS Position

arrow_forwardDriver → ScaleYourJunk (via Google Maps)

The driver portal shares periodic location data back to ScaleYourJunk when active. Dispatchers see each truck as a labeled icon on the dashboard map with heading arrow and last-updated timestamp. GPS updates roughly every 30 seconds while the portal is open — frequent enough for accurate ETAs without hammering battery life. Customer tracking pages on the Growth plan also display a live crew-location indicator so customers know exactly when their crew is approaching.

checkCurrent latitude and longitude

checkHeading direction

checkLast updated timestamp

checkSpeed (used for ETA calculation)

infoGPS only updates while the driver portal is actively open on the driver's phone. If the portal is closed or backgrounded for more than two minutes, the truck icon grays out on the dispatch map with a 'last seen' label. Position resumes updating the moment the portal is reopened.

Dump Facility Locations

arrow_forwardScaleYourJunk → Google Maps

Dump facilities, recycling centers, and donation drop-off points you configure in Settings render as distinct icons on the dispatch map. Route optimization automatically inserts dump runs between jobs when the truck's estimated load reaches capacity. Dispatchers see facility hours, accepted material types, and average per-ton disposal cost right on the map tooltip — no switching to a separate app to check if the transfer station closes at 4 PM.

checkFacility street address

checkOperating hours by day

checkAccepted material types

checkAverage disposal cost per ton

infoIf a facility's hours change (holiday closures, early winter hours), update them in Settings → Facilities. Route optimization will reroute to the next nearest open facility automatically.

Setup Steps

Connect in ~10 minutes. Here's exactly what to do.

checklistBefore You Start

check_circleNo setup, API key, or Google Cloud account required — Google Maps is embedded in ScaleYourJunk from day one on every plan

check_circleEnsure every job address includes full street address, city, state, and ZIP code for clean geocoding — partial addresses like '123 Main' without a city cause map errors

check_circleAdd your dump facilities and recycling centers in Settings → Facilities with complete addresses and operating hours so route optimization can factor them in

check_circleConfirm drivers have location services enabled on their phones — iOS requires 'While Using the App' permission for the ScaleYourJunk driver portal

1

Jobs appear on the map automatically

Every job with a valid address appears as a color-coded pin on the dispatch board map the moment it is created. Pins show customer name, time window, and estimated load at a glance. No configuration needed. Mistake to avoid: entering addresses without ZIP codes — one Tampa operator had 14 jobs geocode to the wrong county in a single week because his intake team skipped ZIP codes on phone bookings.

2

Drivers navigate with one tap

In the driver portal, tapping any job address opens Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation instantly. Works on both iOS and Android. Drivers never need to type or copy-paste an address — eliminating a common source of wrong-address arrivals that waste 20-40 minutes each. If Google Maps is not installed, the portal falls back to the phone's default mapping app.

3

Add dump facilities for smart routing

Go to Settings → Facilities and add every dump, transfer station, recycling center, and donation drop-off your crews use. Include full addresses and operating hours. Route optimization on the Growth plan inserts dump runs between jobs based on estimated truck load — preventing the costly mistake of driving past a transfer station with a full truck only to backtrack 25 minutes later.

4

Enable GPS fleet tracking (Growth)

On the Growth plan at $299/mo, real-time driver GPS activates automatically. Every truck with an active driver portal session appears on the dispatch map with a live position icon. Use this to give customers accurate 15-minute ETAs, reassign nearby trucks to urgent jobs, and verify that crews actually visited job sites. One Phoenix operator caught a driver skipping a job site entirely — the GPS log showed the truck never left the gas station on 32nd Street.

5

Review route history and optimize

Growth plan dispatchers can pull up route history for any truck on any date. Compare planned routes versus actual paths driven to spot inefficiencies — excessive backtracking, unnecessary dump runs, or drivers detouring for personal stops. Operators who review route history weekly typically find 10-15% mileage reduction opportunities within the first month, saving $200-$400 in fuel across a three-truck fleet.

How to Disconnect

Google Maps is a core platform integration embedded in ScaleYourJunk and cannot be disconnected independently. On the Growth plan, real-time driver GPS tracking can be toggled off per driver or fleet-wide in Settings → Fleet → GPS Tracking. Disabling GPS stops position updates on the dispatch map and customer tracking pages but does not affect one-tap navigation or map visualization.

Common Issues & Fixes

Symptom → Cause → Fix. Saves you a support ticket.

Symptom

Job pin not appearing on the dispatch map

Cause

Address could not be geocoded — typically missing city, state, ZIP, or contains a typo like 'Stret' instead of 'Street'

Fix

Edit the job and enter the full street address including city, state, and ZIP. ScaleYourJunk re-geocodes automatically within seconds. Check the address against Google Maps directly if the pin still fails.

Symptom

Driver GPS position not updating or truck icon grayed out

Cause

Driver portal is closed, backgrounded, or the phone's location services are disabled for the browser or ScaleYourJunk portal

Fix

Have the driver reopen the portal and confirm location services are set to 'Allow While Using' on iOS or 'Allowed' on Android. GPS resumes within 30 seconds of reopening.

Symptom

Route optimization not including dump facility stops between jobs

Cause

No dump or transfer station facilities configured in ScaleYourJunk settings, or facility addresses are incomplete

Fix

Add all facilities in Settings → Facilities with complete addresses and operating hours. Re-run route optimization — dump runs will appear in the sequence based on estimated truck load capacity.

Symptom

Drive-time estimates seem inaccurate between stops

Cause

Google Maps drive times reflect current or historical traffic patterns and may differ from actual conditions during severe weather or road closures

Fix

Pad time windows by 10-15 minutes in heavy-traffic metros like Atlanta, Dallas, or LA. Route optimization uses real-time traffic data when available, but construction detours can add unpredictable delays.
