Cost-saving playbook
Boise's $33/ton rate with a $15 minimum covering 1,035 lbs makes disposal remarkably cheap — but the volume-based pricing at Republic transfer stations can be cheaper for certain load types. ScaleYourJunk logs dump fees per job automatically so you can compare your actual cost per load at the landfill versus Republic stations and always route to the cheapest option for each load composition.

Ada County Landfill charges $33 per ton for MSW and C&D with a $15 minimum that covers loads up to 1,035 lbs — one of the cheapest disposal rates in any major metro. Out-of-county waste costs $40.25 per ton. Republic Services transfer stations in Boise and Meridian charge by cubic yard rather than by weight, estimated at approximately $31.25 per cubic yard for MSW. E-waste is free at the landfill. Appliances cost $25 per unit and tires $5 each. Effective October 1, 2025.
Idaho has very light regulation compared to most states — no state hauler permit is required for transporting MSW. Standard requirements include a business license, general liability insurance, and commercial vehicle registration. Ada County requires that all waste originate within Ada County for landfill disposal — operators may be asked for proof of origin such as a building permit or property tax notice. Commercial haulers use HID cards and RFID tags for landfill account access.
Ada County Landfill is open Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Republic Services transfer stations in Boise and Meridian are open Saturday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. No facilities in the Boise metro are open on Sundays — this is the only day with zero disposal access. Plan all weekend routing and dump runs for Saturday. Monday mornings may be busier than usual due to accumulated weekend loads.
E-waste is FREE at the Ada County Landfill Recovery and Diversion Area — no appointment needed for under 10 items. This includes TVs, computers, monitors, and other electronics. For more than 10 items, call (208) 577-4725 to arrange. This is a significant cost advantage — most metros charge $15 to $30 per e-waste item. Separate all electronics from mixed loads before hitting the scale to avoid paying $33 per ton for items you could dispose of for free.
It depends on load composition. Ada County Landfill charges $33 per ton by weight — cheapest for heavy loads like concrete, dirt, and dense junk. Republic transfer stations charge approximately $31.25 per cubic yard by volume — potentially cheaper for light, bulky loads like furniture and mattresses that take up space but weigh little. For most mixed junk removal loads, the landfill's $15 minimum covering up to 1,035 lbs makes it the default choice. Track both to know your break-even point.
