Cost-saving playbook
Indianapolis has some of the cheapest MSW disposal in the country at $24/cu yd — but the appliance surcharges ($70–$150 per unit) can destroy your margin on cleanout jobs if you're not tracking them. An estate cleanout with 3 appliances adds $210–$450 in unexpected disposal costs. ScaleYourJunk logs dump fees per job including per-item surcharges so you can build accurate disposal costs into every quote.

South Side Landfill charges $24 per cubic yard for open-top MSW loads, $24 per cubic yard for C&D and drywall, $27 per cubic yard for shingles, and $12 per cubic yard for clean fill. Car loads start at $19.75. Indiana's statewide average MSW tipping fee is $43.56 per ton, roughly 30% below the national average of $62.28 per ton. WM Twin Bridges and Republic 96th Street do not publicly post rates — call for commercial account pricing.
South Side Landfill on Kentucky Avenue is the cheapest and only MSW landfill within Marion County. At $24 per cubic yard for household junk and C&D, it is the operator default for Indianapolis junk removal. Clean fill (rocks, bricks, concrete, dirt) is even cheaper at $12 per cubic yard. The facility opens at 5:00 AM on weekdays — earlier than any other disposal site in the metro. Cash, check, and debit/credit cards accepted (no American Express). Credit accounts available for commercial operators.
South Side Landfill charges $150 per Freon appliance (fridge, freezer, A/C) and $70 per non-Freon appliance (washer, dryer, stove). To avoid these surcharges, route working appliances to Greater Indy Habitat ReStore for free disposal with a tax-deductible receipt — they accept refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers, dryers, and dishwashers in working condition with free pickup service. For non-working appliances, sell them as scrap metal at Zore's Recycling for revenue instead of paying the disposal fee.
No — Indiana law IC 13-20.5 prohibits landfill disposal of covered electronics including computers, monitors, TVs, and printers. South Side Landfill, Twin Bridges, and all other Indiana landfills will reject e-waste loads. Route electronics through Indiana's eCycle program or RecycleForce for proper recycling. Zore's Recycling buys electronics at approximately $0.35 per pound, turning e-waste from a disposal headache into modest revenue.
Weekend options are limited. South Side Landfill's Saturday and Sunday hours are not publicly listed — call (317) 247-6808 to confirm. WM Twin Bridges in Danville has Saturday hours from 6:00 to 10:00 AM. Citizens Transfer Station is open Saturdays 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM but is restricted to Marion County residents only (no commercial haulers, cash only). For scrap metal, Zore's Recycling has the best weekend hours in the metro at Saturday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
